A Story Once Told to the Future

Beyond the bridge that led to the other side,
Away from the times of yo-yos and bruised knees,
Our laughs ran through the wind,
Above the sound of Pied Piper's tunes.

Along the boulevard of fake smiles,
Down the narrow streets of broken lamps,
Pied Piper and his band of misfits,
Trailed our shadows...
Losing the last light that shone
From behind the clouds heavy with rain,
To an existence consumed by reckless debauchery,
And sentimental serendipity.

The night was darker,
The wine was stronger
The fire burned brighter
In this night of wonder.

Running towards the boat by the river,
Filled to the hilt with condoms and contraceptives,
Clouded visions belied the truths we saw standing right before us;
Clouded visions of edibles and spirits.

At a distance, the white flag fluttered across,
Our visions gave way to ecstasy and delirium.

Forged by desire and drive
The white flag spoke surrender, and goaded us on.

The boat across the bridge left the harbor,
The same stream of waters we'd passed many times seemed different
Under the dark night,
And silent wind.

We no longer heard the tunes from the other side,
It was drowned out by the beating of our hearts,
It was drowned out by a desire, an ambition,
Unencumbered by a lowly descent into unfettered passions.

The night was darker,
The wine was stronger
The fire burned brighter
In this night of wonder.
